John Callaghan, aka Cal-TV, produces viral videos, music videos, shorts and corporate features. John is the creative force within MercuryBoy, being our copywriter and art-director. He has a Masters in Multimedia Systems from the prestigious Trinity College course and has been working as an editor and writer since graduating in October 2005.

John teaches a course in Digital Video Fundamentals at the Centre for Computational Musicology and Computer Music in the University of Limerick, and also works freelance as a video artist and director, he also performs as a VJ at events such as Future Cinema and Studio Artois.

In early 2006 he created a video piece called "Imagine This", a cut-up of GW Bush singing the John Lennon classic "Imagine", this made front page news in the European daily newspapers El Pais and Il Corriere, and was shown to over 9 Million people on the Canadian TV show "The Hour".

The piece has also been shown at film festivals across Europe, and received the "special mention" in the "Best Irish Short Award" category at the Cork Film Festival. Imagine This opened the festival and was screened before Death of President to an amazing response, it was also shortlisted for the Prix UIP.

John has also created a number of other music videos and works with Irish electro artist Dancepig on a live visual setup written in MAx MSP / Jitter. Another music video, for the Robag Wruhme track Konnex, was recently included on the pan European DVD magazine "Slices"

Recently John was commissioned by the Big Chill festival in the UK, he cycled over 200 miles to the festival and made a short film along the way, entitled "The Big Cycle", this was edited on site and screened at the festival.
